Energy Prices (Mid September 2016)

Mid September 2016

Electricity:

Some Energy Consultants are predicting that Winter 2016/17 is set to be the tightest period of the UK power market’s two decade history.

If the supply tightness of the last few days eases, prices for all periods may return to pre-spike levels.

Forecasters are also predicting that wind speeds across the UK and northwest Europe will be lower than normal over the next two months, which could limit wind power output.

Gas:

Short-term UK gas prices have had a very volatile fortnight. The main gas price driver has been sudden changes in Norwegian flows, although UK production hiccups have also been a factor.
